Bike Servicing

Give your bike some expert TLC

At Alpine Bikes we have been caring for our customers’ bikes for over twenty five years and we are very proud to be known for our quality workmanship, our expertise, our attention to detail and our affordable pricing.

To enhance our servicing, we have improved the choices that our customers can make. We have designed our servicing around your bike, rather than having services that meet the needs of our workshop. We want you to be able to choose exactly the services you need, rather than pay for work that you may not require. All of our services include the following:

  • Free health check for your bicycle
  • First class servicing at affordable prices
  • Servicing built around the needs of your bicycle
  • Free expert aftercare advice

For more information, contact or visit your local store and our friendly staff will be able to advise you.

When do you need a Gear Service?

Servicing your gears is a bit like a car service, if it is done regularly it will reduce wear and tear and ensure that your bike runs smoothly for longer. The staff in our stores will be able to advise you in detail, but in general we would recommend you choose a Gear Service:

  • If the gears on your bike are not working properly
  • If the chain is slipping, rusty or stiff
  • After winter to ensure that your bike is restored and ready for spring
  • At least once per year to reduce wear and tear and improve component life

What do you get?

Maintaining your brakes is one of the most important things you can do for your bike. Our Brake Service is specifically targeted at ensuring that your brakes work reliably when you need them. Whether you have V-brakes, cable disc brakes or a hydraulic system our mechanics will inspect, clean, service and adjust your brakes to optimise performance. The Brake Service includes all of the following:

  • Full bike inspection and report
  • Brake cables checked for stretch and wear or hoses checked for wear and tear
  • Pad condition and wear checked and pads replaced if required (cost of pads not included)
  • Braking surfaces checked and cleaned, and rotors straightened where required
  • Cables replaced where required (cost of cables not included) or brake system bled or topped up as necessary (brake fluid free of charge)
  • Full calliper alignment
  • Full brake set up and adjustment

Additional labour charges (only if required)

When do you need a Brake Service?

Our Brake Service is great value for a reason – we think that getting your brakes checked regularly is really important to keep your bike safe. The staff in our stores will be able to advise you in detail, but in general we would recommend you choose a Brake Service:

  • If your brakes lack stopping power
  • If your brakes feel spongy, rough or soft
  • If your brakes are making excessive noise
  • At least once per year to ensure they are safe

What do you get?

Our Frame Service is specifically designed to focus on the parts of a bike that are often ignored by all but the most expensive services. If a bike is making noise or feels a bit rough, it is quite often due to problems with the bottom bracket or headset. In our Frame Service, our mechanics will check, clean and lubricate all the key moving parts of the frame; the service will include the following:

  • Full bike inspection and report
  • Frame checked for alignment (where possible)
  • Frame and fork drop out alignment checked
  • Fork removed, headset wiped down, bearings checked and lubricated or replaced as required (cost of bearings not included)
  • Bottom bracket removed, bearings checked and lubricated or replaced as required (cost of bearings or new bottom bracket not included)
  • Frame cleaned and inspected for any signs of damage
  • Swing arm bearings checked for play and freedom of movement (where applicable)

Additional labour charges (only if required):

  • Full headset replacement £10
  • Full swing arm bearing replacement £20

When do you need a Frame Service?

Our Frame Service includes things that many standard services ignore. The frame is the most expensive part of a bike and the better care you take of its moving parts, the longer your bike will last. The staff in our stores will be able to advise you if you in detail, but in general we would recommend you choose a Frame Service:

  • If the bottom bracket or headset feels rough or loose
  • If your bike is making creaking or clicking noises
  • After winter to ensure that your bike is restored and ready for spring
  • At least every 12 to 18 months.

What do you get?

In our Wheel Service, our mechanics will give your wheels the attention they need. Keeping your wheels serviced is vital to the smooth running of your bicycle and helps to avoid the minor wheel ailments that build up over riding time. Within the service we will look after the wheels themselves and the internal workings of the hubs to make sure that are returned to factory standard. The Wheel Service includes all of the following:

  • Full bike inspection and report
  • Wheels wiped and cleaned
  • Hubs stripped, bearings checked, cleaned, greased or replaced where required (cost of cartridge bearings not included)
  • Wheel alignment and spoke tension checked and adjusted
  • Broken spokes replaced where possible (up to 3 spokes free of charge)
  • Tyres checked and inspected for damage and wear
  • Tyres replaced if required (parts not included)

Additional labour charges (only if required)

  • Full wheel rebuild £12 per wheel
  • Tubeless set up for road or MTB £12 per wheel

When do you need a Wheel Service?

As the main contact point with the road or trail, the wheels really take the brunt of the terrain. Be it pot holes, roots or just everyday use, it is common for wheels to lose spoke tension, snap spokes or for hubs to stop spinning smoothly. The staff in the store will be able to advise you in detail, but we would generally recommend you choose a Wheel Service:

  • If your spokes feel loose, you have some broken spokes or your brakes are rubbing intermittently
  • If your hubs feel rough or there is play in the wheel itself
  • After winter to ensure your bike is restored and ready for spring
  • At least every 12-18 Months
